Questions, answered.
The things people tend to ask before they start. If something is not here, Amy or our team is happy to help. You can always reach support@costme.io.
The basics.
What is opportunity cost?+
Opportunity cost is the value of what you give up when you make a choice. When you spend $200 on something, the real cost is not $200 it is what that $200 would be worth if you let it grow instead. CostMe shows you that second number in the one second before you decide.
Why does CostMe use a 10% return rate?+
10% is the historical long-run average annual return of the S&P 500 over the last ~100 years, with dividends reinvested. It is a widely cited benchmark in personal-finance education. It is the default, and you can adjust the projected rate up or down to match how conservative or optimistic you want the math to be.
Do I need an account to try it?+
You can run a number without one. A free account keeps your vault, goals, and Amy in sync across every device, and carries your plan with you. One signup, same Amy everywhere.
Who is Amy?+
Amy is the calm money advisor inside CostMe. She gives a straight read on what you would give up. Without making you feel small. She is the same advisor on every plan; the higher plans simply give her more room to reason.
What devices can I use CostMe on?+
CostMe runs in any modern browser. You can also install it to your home screen on iOS or Android, where it runs full-screen like an app. Your account, plan, and data follow you across every device.
Plans and billing.
What plans are available?+
Four tiers, all built around the same Amy. Jade is free forever: the calculator, the vault, and Amy for a handful of thoughtful chats a day. Opal at $7.99/month adds unlimited chat with deeper analysis when it counts. Flint Pro+ at $19.99/month is Amy at her sharpest. Flint Max, a web-only top tier at $200/month, removes the daily caps for the heaviest use.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. You can cancel from your account at any time, and your plan keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for. Nothing locks you in, and there is no cancellation fee.
Do you offer refunds?+
Subscriptions run to the end of the period you paid for after you cancel. The Founders Lifetime plan is all sales final - the free Jade tier lets you try CostMe before you commit. The full, plain-English version lives on the refund policy page.
What counts as a chat?+
A chat is one back-and-forth exchange with Amy. You ask, she answers. On the free Jade plan you get a handful of these each day; Opal and Flint Pro+ lift the limit so you can think things through without counting.
How do I upgrade or change plans?+
From your account, in the plan section. Upgrades take effect right away; if you move to a lower plan, the change applies at the end of your current period so you keep what you paid for.
Privacy and your data.
What data does CostMe collect?+
Your calculations, your decisions (vault / 48-hour / bought), the subscriptions you track, your conversations with Amy, and no-PII product-usage analytics. Stored so cross-device sync and your own tracking work. Encrypted in transit and at rest. The specifics are in the privacy policy.
Do you sell my data or run ads?+
No. CostMe makes money from subscriptions. No ads. No data sales. No behavioral targeting. The product earns its $7.99/month by being worth using. Which keeps our incentive aligned with yours, not an advertiser's.
Is my data private from Amy?+
Amy sees only what she needs to give you a useful read. Amounts and the categories you choose. She is built to advise, not to judge or to share. Your conversations stay tied to your account.
Can I delete my account?+
Yes. You can delete your account from your settings, which removes your data. If you would rather we handle it, reach support@costme.io and we will take care of it.
